A print of “Nocturne in Black and Gold: The Falling Rocket” by James McNeill Whistler on your wall
The navy of night, smoke and golden sparks falling into darkness - this nocturne looks like an abstraction painted half a century before abstraction. Whistler's Nocturne in Black and Gold is wall art for bold, modern interiors: a living room with dark walls and brass lamps, a bar or restaurant with atmospheric lighting, a loft with black steel and concrete, and a masculine bedroom or study. A print of Nocturne in Black and Gold keeps the vertical crop of the original; smaller formats work like a jewel, large ones like a window onto the night sky. On 5 mm acrylic glass the black gains the depth of glass and the sparks seem to hover above the surface; Dibond subdues the glow into matt elegance. In the artMonte configurator you enter any dimensions and we print the nocturne exactly for your wall.

Nocturne in Black and Gold: The Falling Rocket
About the artwork
Over the night-time pleasure garden of Cremorne Gardens in London scatter the sparks of fireworks, and the silhouettes of spectators and trees dissolve in a navy mist. Whistler, fascinated by Japanese prints and by music, gave the painting of 1875 a title like a musical composition. The critic John Ruskin accused him of "flinging a pot of paint in the public's face"; the artist sued him for libel, won a symbolic farthing and went bankrupt.
