A print of “In the Days of Sappho” by John William Godward on your wall
The sapphire of the sea, sun-warmed marble and the soft drapery of a gown in warm tones - In the Days of Sappho is a painting that brings summer, Mediterranean light into an interior. The small, horizontal original bears enlargement well: a Godward print hung above the sofa in a classic-style living room, above the bath in a bright bathroom or in the room of a seaside boutique hotel warms the space instantly. It suits white, beige, natural linen and pale oak furniture. On 5 mm acrylic glass the blue of the water gains depth and sheen, as if the picture were a window onto a bay; Dibond gives a calm, matt effect close to the original canvas. As wall art for a bedroom or a beauty salon, Godward's work calms and orders an interior. In the artMonte configurator you enter the dimensions you need and receive a print tailored to your wall.

In the Days of Sappho
About the artwork
A young woman in antique dress sits on a marble bench, and behind her stretches the blue of the sea in full sunlight. The title evokes the Greek poetess from Lesbos, but the painting tells no story - it is an atmospheric vision of Mediterranean calm in which what matters is the texture of marble, the softness of fabrics and the light. Godward, called the last of the Victorian neoclassicists, painted it in 1904. The work belongs to the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles.
