A print of “The Arnolfini Portrait” by Jan van Eyck on your wall
Anyone who has once looked closely at the mirror on the back wall returns to this painting for more details. Jan van Eyck filled the picture with small things that invite careful looking: the slippers, the oranges on the windowsill, the little dog, the rosary. A print of The Arnolfini Portrait is a subtle wedding gift and perfect wall art for a classic-style study, dining room or corridor. The deep green, the red of the bed and the amber light suit dark wood, brass and interiors inspired by old town houses. The vertical crop preserves the proportions of the original and looks best in a large size, where every detail is visible. Dibond renders the matt refinement of the Flemish panel, 5 mm acrylic glass boosts the saturation of the colours, and eco-friendly Dispa board suits those who value sustainability. The Arnolfini Portrait
About the artwork
Painted in 1434 in oil on oak panel, the portrait shows the merchant Giovanni Arnolfini and his wife in a bourgeois interior in Bruges. Jan van Eyck rendered the texture of fur, the brass chandelier and the convex mirror, in which two additional figures are reflected, with a precision never seen before. Above the mirror is the Latin inscription “Jan van Eyck was here 1434”. The work, held in the National Gallery in London, is regarded as a milestone of oil painting and one of the most enigmatic scenes in the history of art.
