A print of “Seba, from The Sixty-nine Stations of the Kisokaido” by Utagawa Hiroshige on your wall
A full moon over a river, willows stirred by the wind and boats gliding through the dusk - Seba is the most atmospheric of the stations of the Kisokaido. We recommend this Japanese woodblock print to anyone looking for wall art for a bedroom, reading room or quiet study where atmosphere matters. Deep navy blues, greys and olive greens look superb on dark walls, with velvet fabrics, dark wood and the warm light of lamps. The horizontal composition suits a space above a bed or sofa, and stretched into a panorama as wallpaper it creates an evening landscape across a whole wall. A Seba print on 5 mm acrylic glass makes the moonlight on the water gleam, while Dibond gives it a calm, matt character. Hiroshige wall art for romantics. Set any dimensions in the artMonte configurator and we will prepare the print exactly for your interior.
Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858)
Seba, from The Sixty-nine Stations of the Kisokaido
About the artwork
A full moon lights a river above which the wind sways the branches of willows, while boatmen guide their boats through the deepening dusk. The dark silhouettes of trees and reeds contrast with the bright band of sky and the gleaming surface of the water. The woodblock print was made around 1835-1838 in the series The Sixty-nine Stations of the Kisokaido, which Hiroshige created together with Keisai Eisen. The Seba scene is considered one of the most poetic in the series, close in mood to classical Chinese and Japanese poetry about the moon.
