A print of “Sudden Shower over Shin-Ōhashi Bridge and Atake” by Utagawa Hiroshige on your wall
This picture so enchanted Vincent van Gogh that he painted his own version of it - and it is no wonder. Sudden Shower over Shin-Ōhashi Bridge is one of the most recognisable motifs in Japanese art, and a print of it brings dynamism and the mood of a rainy afternoon into a room. The vertical format means this Hiroshige print suits narrow walls, a hallway, study or bedroom perfectly. Navy blues, graphite and the warm ochre of the bridge harmonise with industrial interiors, concrete, black steel and dark wood. You can order this Japanese woodblock print as a tall panel on Dibond with a matt finish or on 5 mm acrylic glass, which emphasises the depth of the navy sky. As wallpaper the vertical composition works well on a section of wall. Enter your own size in the artMonte configurator and order a made-to-measure print.

About the artwork
Streaks of rain cut across the composition in thin diagonal lines, and passers-by huddle under umbrellas and straw raincoats as they hurry across the wooden bridge over the Sumida River. On the water a lone raftsman steers his raft, and the opposite bank drowns in the greys of the downpour. The woodblock print from the series One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, published in 1857, is among Hiroshige's most famous works. In 1887 Vincent van Gogh copied it in oils, and the composition became a symbol of the influence of Japonism on European art.
