A print of “Naniwaya Okita” by Kitagawa Utamaro on your wall
A cup of tea, a bowed head and a kimono in muted colours - Naniwaya Okita is an intimate portrait that feels perfectly at home in calm interiors. Kitagawa Utamaro created this picture for the people of Edo who were in love with the beauty of the famous waitress, and today the Japanese woodblock print suits a kitchen area, dining room or reading nook at home. A Naniwaya Okita print likes palettes of off-white, sage, sand and dark walnut wood. It looks best in a vertical format, also paired with other ukiyo-e works. On Dibond it keeps a discreet, papery softness, on acrylic glass it gains a modern sheen, and PVC board is a light solution for smaller rooms. As bedroom wall art it brings an atmosphere of quiet. Fit the size to the centimetre in the artMonte configurator.

Naniwaya Okita
About the artwork
Okita was a waitress at the Naniwaya teahouse near Sensō-ji temple in Asakusa and one of the most admired women of Edo in the 1790s. Kitagawa Utamaro showed her in half-length, a cup of tea in her hands, in a moment of reverie. The impression of around 1793, held in the Library of Congress in Washington, shows how the master of bijinga turned popular figures of city life into icons of elegance, his portraits working like the celebrity posters of their day.
