A print of “Shōno: White Rain” by Utagawa Hiroshige on your wall
Diagonal streaks of rain, running figures and the outlines of bamboo blurred into grey - Shōno is one of the most dynamic scenes in all of Hiroshige's work. This print brings the energy of movement into a room, so it works brilliantly as wall art for a study, office, teenager's room or modern living room. The palette of graphite, ash grey and muted beige suits lofts, concrete walls, black frames and cool lighting. The composition in a horizontal format best conveys the movement of the figures, and as wallpaper it creates a strong, graphic feature wall. Hiroshige wall art for lovers of design and graphic art, and a Japanese woodblock print for those who like art with character. Dibond provides a matt, gallery-style effect; 5 mm acrylic glass heightens the contrast of the streaks of rain. You choose the dimensions freely in the artMonte configurator.

Shōno: White Rain
About the artwork
A sudden downpour surprises travellers on a steep slope - the palanquin bearers run uphill, while others bend under an umbrella and straw raincoats. The bamboo grove in the background dissolves into silhouettes in graded shades of grey, and the rain is rendered with dense diagonal lines. The woodblock print from the series The Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido, published around 1833-1834, is regarded as one of the finest depictions of rain in the history of graphic art. The dynamism of the movement and the bold composition of diagonal lines make it a surprisingly modern work.
