A print of “Fireworks at Ryōgoku” by Utagawa Hiroshige on your wall
Night, a river and a golden burst against a navy sky - Fireworks at Ryōgoku is one of Hiroshige's most atmospheric woodblock prints. The dark, moody palette means the print feels perfectly at home in a bedroom, home cinema, bar or study with dark walls in shades of navy, graphite or bottle green. The golden accents of the sparks correspond beautifully with brass lamps and warm light. Hiroshige wall art in a vertical format works above a console or in a narrow alcove, and as wallpaper it creates a striking feature wall. On 5 mm acrylic glass the Japanese woodblock print takes on the depth of the night sky and the sparks look backlit. Dibond gives a more subdued, gallery-style matt finish. A great gift for New Year's Eve or a new flat. You choose the size freely in the artMonte configurator.

Fireworks at Ryōgoku
About the artwork
Fireworks burst above the dark surface of the Sumida River, scattering golden sparks across the navy sky, while below them boats full of spectators crowd the water. In the background looms the arch of Ryōgoku Bridge, where summer firework displays had been held since the eighteenth century. The woodblock print from the series One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, dated 1858, is among Hiroshige's most atmospheric night scenes. Its spare composition, full of dark spaces, anticipates the nocturnes of James McNeill Whistler inspired by Japanese art.
