A print of “Moon Pine, Ueno” by Utagawa Hiroshige on your wall
A branch twisted into a perfect circle, through which we view a pond and distant buildings - Moon Pine, Ueno is a graphic gem that draws the eye like a window in the wall. This print works as wall art for a living room, bedroom or home office, especially in Japandi schemes and modern minimalism. The greens of the pine, the blue of the water and the warm beiges of the sky harmonise with pale wood, rattan, houseplants and off-white walls. The natural vertical format suits narrow walls, although a square crop focused on the circle of the branch looks very striking too. As wallpaper the Japanese woodblock print creates a window-wall onto old Edo. Hiroshige wall art on Dibond or 5 mm acrylic glass - choose matt or gloss. In the artMonte configurator you can order a print in any size.
Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858)
Moon Pine, Ueno
About the artwork
A branch of an old pine curls into an almost perfect circle, creating a natural frame for the view of Shinobazu Pond and the buildings on its shore. The tree grew in the grounds of Kan'ei-ji temple in Ueno and was one of the attractions of Edo; its name referred to its shape, reminiscent of the disc of the moon. The woodblock print from the series One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, published in 1857, shows Hiroshige's mastery in building a composition using the foreground. The device of framing the landscape with an element of nature became one of the hallmarks of the artist's late work.
