A print of “Plum Garden at Kameido” by Utagawa Hiroshige on your wall
The white of plum blossom against a sky blazing red - it is hard to find a more striking combination of colours in Japanese graphic art. Plum Garden at Kameido is the Hiroshige print that inspired Van Gogh, and today it can become the focal point of a living room, dining room or bedroom. The deep red, the dark brown of the branch and the green of the grass suit warm interiors with walnut, brass, bottle green and creamy white. The natural vertical format works in narrow spaces, and an enlarged print of Plum Garden at Kameido as wallpaper turns a wall into a blossoming orchard. The Japanese woodblock print looks refined and matt on Dibond, while on 5 mm acrylic glass the red of the sky gains an almost luminous intensity. It also makes a beautiful gift for springtime occasions. In the artMonte configurator you can order any dimensions, fitted to your wall to the centimetre.

Plum Garden at Kameido
About the artwork
In the foreground a mighty, gnarled branch of an old plum tree cuts across the composition, and beyond it, in the distance, strollers admire the blossoming trees against a reddening sky. The garden at Kameido was famous for a tree called the Sleeping Dragon Plum, whose branches trailed along the ground. The woodblock print from the series One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, published in 1857, delights with its bold juxtaposition of planes. Vincent van Gogh copied it in 1887, and the radical framing with its dominant foreground influenced the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists.
