A print of “Vertumnus (Portrait of Rudolf II)” by Giuseppe Arcimboldo on your wall
A pear instead of a nose, apples for cheeks, peas as eyelids - this portrait raises a smile from every guest. Giuseppe Arcimboldo prepared the picture as a sophisticated compliment to the emperor, and today a Vertumnus print is exceptionally original wall art for a kitchen, dining room, restaurant or cafe. Juicy reds, greens and oranges against a dark background enliven eclectic, vintage and modern loft interiors, as well as walls in graphite or olive. The vertical format works above a table or console, and large wallpaper makes a huge impression in a restaurant. On Dibond every fruit is visible in sharp detail; on 5 mm acrylic glass the colours become positively appetising. Choose any dimensions in the artMonte configurator and give your wall a touch of Renaissance humour.

Vertumnus (Portrait of Rudolf II)
About the artwork
Around 1590-1591 Giuseppe Arcimboldo portrayed Emperor Rudolf II as Vertumnus, the Roman god of the seasons and of change. The ruler's face is composed of fruit, vegetables and flowers of all seasons - peas form the eyelids, a pear the nose, and ears of corn and grapes crown the head. The playful form concealed praise of a reign bringing abundance and harmony. The painting was taken from Prague by the Swedes in 1648 and is today kept at Skokloster Castle in Sweden.
