A print of “Napoleon Crossing the Alps” by Jacques-Louis David on your wall
A billowing cloak, a rearing steed and a hand pointing to the summit - it is hard to find a stronger symbol of determination. Jacques-Louis David created the picture as a manifesto of power, and today a print of Napoleon Crossing the Alps is striking wall art for a CEO's office, an office, a boardroom or a masculine living room. The intense red of the cloak, the cool blue of the sky and the warm browns of the rocks combine superbly with dark wood, leather armchairs, navy and golden Empire-style accents. The vertical format showcases the dynamism of the composition and looks good in a large size above a desk or fireplace. Dibond provides museum-like elegance, 5 mm acrylic glass boosts the contrast of the colours, and wallpaper gives an interior a truly imperial sweep. It is also an impressive gift for a history enthusiast. In the artMonte configurator you can order the picture in any dimensions.

Napoleon Crossing the Alps
About the artwork
Jacques-Louis David painted the first version of the portrait, made in 1801 and today held at the Château de Malmaison, on commission from King Charles IV of Spain. The First Consul on a rearing horse points to the summit of the Great St Bernard Pass, and the names of Hannibal and Charlemagne appear on the rocks. In reality Bonaparte crossed the Alps on a mule, but the painter created an image of a hero in keeping with the sitter's wishes. The painting became one of the most recognisable examples of propaganda in art.
