A print of “The Milkmaid” by Johannes Vermeer on your wall
The kitchen rarely gets a work of art - but it should. A print of The Milkmaid is a Vermeer painting practically made for the dining room and kitchen, whether rustic or modern with a stone worktop and wooden fronts. Golden yellow, deep blue and warm ochres harmonise with linen, ceramics and copper, giving the interior the atmosphere of a Dutch home. The calm, focused scene also makes it successful living room wall art in a slow-living spirit. The vertical proportions of the original let you hang it beside a window or above a dresser, and a tight crop on the hands and jug gives the effect of an intimate still life. Dibond renders the matt texture of the wall and the bread; 5 mm acrylic glass heightens the play of light. As wallpaper the kitchen turns into a room in Delft. Every piece of wall art in our collection can be ordered from artMonte in the size you enter yourself in the configurator.

The Milkmaid
About the artwork
A maid in a yellow bodice and blue apron pours milk from a jug into an earthenware bowl with quiet concentration, while light from the window picks out the texture of bread, wicker and the whitewashed wall. Johannes Vermeer painted this picture around 1657-1658, transforming an ordinary domestic task into a scene full of silence and dignity. The tiny, luminous points of paint on the bread are among the most characteristic elements of his technique. The canvas is one of the most treasured works in the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
