A print of “The Sleeping Gypsy” by Henri Rousseau on your wall
A moonlit night, a desert and a lion that keeps watch instead of attacking. Henri Rousseau painted the picture so that it looks like a dream recorded in paint, and that is exactly why The Sleeping Gypsy feels so at home in a bedroom. The deep navy of the sky, sandy beiges and the pastel stripes of the robe form a calm, slightly melancholy palette that suits boho and Japandi interiors and minimalist schemes with wood. The horizontal crop works superbly above a bed or sofa, and as wallpaper it turns a whole wall into a nocturnal landscape. A print of The Sleeping Gypsy on Dibond preserves the matt depth of the night, while 5 mm acrylic glass emphasises the glow of the moon and the smooth, almost enamelled planes of colour. Wall art for those who like their art with a touch of magic. You enter the dimensions yourself in the artMonte configurator - we print the picture exactly to the size of your wall.

The Sleeping Gypsy
About the artwork
Henri Rousseau's The Sleeping Gypsy shows a wandering musician sunk in sleep in the desert, over whom a lion bends in the moonlight. Beside her lie a mandolin and a water jug, and the animal brings silence and mystery to the scene rather than menace. Painted in 1897 by a self-taught artist, a customs officer by profession, the picture was initially met with ridicule. Today, in the collection of MoMA in New York, it is regarded as a herald of Surrealism and one of the masterpieces of naive art.
