A print of “Hummingbirds (Trochilidae)” by Ernst Haeckel on your wall
Emerald, amethyst and copper on a pale ground - Haeckel's hummingbirds are the most joyful plate in Kunstformen der Natur. Wall art like this belongs in a child's room in a subdued, natural palette, in a bedroom with linen bedding and rattan, or in a dining room where the green leaves of a monstera and the hummingbirds form one tropical motif. The vertical plate also bears a square crop of a single group of birds well, and paired with the sea anemones or orchids it forms a coherent Haeckel gallery. Dispa, an eco-friendly board with a matt surface, emphasises the papery, album-like character of the print and is as light as a framed poster; Dibond gives it a noble, museum-like weight. Haeckel art in the dimensions you set yourself: the artMonte configurator accepts any width and height, and the print reaches you fitted to the wall.

Hummingbirds (Trochilidae)
About the artwork
A dozen or so hummingbirds in metallic greens, violets and purples are caught in flight and at rest; each bird is shown with a different pose of tail and beak so as to bring out the differences between species. Plate 99 belongs to the last series of Kunstformen der Natur, completed in 1904. Haeckel, a zoologist from Jena, chose hummingbirds as an example of the colourful splendour that evolution produces in vertebrates, alongside radiolarians, jellyfish and sea anemones. The plates were drawn on stone from his sketches by the lithographer Adolf Giltsch.
