A print of “Two Egrets in the Rain” by Ohara Koson on your wall
Two patches of white against the night and rain like a curtain of threads - Koson's Two Egrets is a silence you can hear. This Japanese woodblock print suits a minimalist bedroom with a futon and a pale mat, a bathroom in greys and bamboo, a japandi-style hallway with linen curtains, and a study where nothing is allowed to distract. The original is narrow and tall, so we recommend a vertical, slender format, ideally paired with another Koson sheet. Dispa conveys the softness of Japanese paper and the matt, deep black of the ground; Dibond in a larger size turns the intimate print into calm wall art above the bed. The size is up to you: in the artMonte configurator you give any dimensions and we print the egrets exactly for your wall.

Two Egrets in the Rain
About the artwork
Two white egrets stand close together against a dark night, and slanting, thin strokes of rain cut across the whole picture; the white of the feathers is the only bright accent of the composition. Ohara Koson, master of the kacho-e woodblock print (pictures of birds and flowers), published this sheet around 1900-1910, in the first period of his career, when his works went mainly for export to Europe and America. The impression belongs to the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Koson is today regarded as the most important creator of bird prints in the shin-hanga movement.
