A print of “Ammonites (Ammonitida)” by Ernst Haeckel on your wall
Graphite, chalk and the spiral rhythm of shells - Haeckel's ammonites are a study in geometry that needs no colour to draw the eye. This print belongs in a study with dark bookcases and a leather armchair, in a home library, in a loft with raw concrete and black steel, and in a collector's interior where minerals and fossils stand on display. The monochrome plate clashes with no furniture colour scheme, so it can be hung singly in a vertical format or as a pair with another Haeckel plate. On Dibond the blacks are deep and matt as in the original lithograph, and the aluminium board standing off the wall adds lightness. A Kunstformen der Natur print in any dimensions: give them in the artMonte configurator and we will print it exactly for your wall.

Ammonites (Ammonitida)
About the artwork
The black-and-white lithograph brings together the shells of extinct ammonites: spiral shells seen from the side and the front, cross-sections showing the chambers, and the intricate suture lines on the surface. Plate 44 from Kunstformen der Natur (1899-1904) is one of the few in the album devoted to fossils. Haeckel saw in ammonites proof that the laws of symmetry and growth governed life hundreds of millions of years ago. The austere, engraver-like character of the print sets it apart from the colourful plates of jellyfish and sea anemones.
