A print of “Pomegranate and Morpho Butterflies” by Maria Sibylla Merian on your wall
The metallic blue of Morpho wings against a ruby pomegranate and the dark green of the leaves - Maria Sibylla Merian painted Suriname as no one had before her. This print belongs in a kitchen or dining room, where fruit and insects converse with the table, in a study furnished like a collection of curiosities with a globe and display cases, in a bedroom in deep greens, and in a boutique hotel that puts its faith in history and craftsmanship. The vertical plate looks best in a tall crop; you can also cut out a square with the fruit and the butterfly. Dibond gives a matt, almost parchment-like surface that emphasises the work of the burin, while 5 mm acrylic glass lights up the blue of the butterflies like a glass display case. A Merian print in the dimensions you enter yourself in the artMonte configurator - and we print it for your wall.

Pomegranate and Morpho Butterflies
About the artwork
On a branch of a pomegranate tree with a split fruit full of seeds and a scarlet flower sit butterflies of the genus Morpho with wings of metallic blue; beside them, as always with Merian, the developmental stages of the insect are shown. The print comes from Metamorphosis insectorum Surinamensium (1705), the fruit of the artist's two-year expedition to Suriname in 1699-1701. Merian, the first woman to organise a scientific expedition on her own, combined scientific observation with the precision of hand-coloured copper engraving. The plate was engraved by Joseph Mulder.
