A print of “The Mirror of Venus” by Edward Burne-Jones on your wall
Pastel blues and pinks of the gowns, a silvery sheet of water and brown rocks in the background - The Mirror of Venus is a painting that quietens an interior. The panoramic format (the original is two metres wide) makes the Burne-Jones print a natural ornament for the wall above a sofa in a classic-style living room, above a bed in a bedroom or above the reception desk of a boutique hotel. It suits furniture in pale oak, linen fabrics and sage green walls. We recommend a wide horizontal crop, and on large surfaces photo wallpaper: the motif of the maidens by the water then stretches across the whole wall and works like a window into another world. On Dibond the print gains a matt, smooth texture that emphasises the softness of the colours. As a poster, The Mirror of Venus also works in a beauty salon, where the motif of caring for beauty is right at home. You enter the dimensions yourself in the artMonte configurator, and we print exactly as much as your wall needs.

The Mirror of Venus
About the artwork
Venus and a group of her companions bend over a pool of still water in which their faces are reflected. The scene takes place in a deserted, rocky landscape and there is no action at all - Burne-Jones deliberately gave up narrative in favour of the pure beauty of line and colour. The painting was made in 1873-1877 on commission from Frederick Leyland and was shown at the opening of the Grosvenor Gallery in 1877, the exhibition that brought the artist fame. Today it belongs to the Gulbenkian Museum in Lisbon.
