A print of “The Black Sea” by Ivan Aivazovsky on your wall
Grey-green depths, a leaden sky and a single lonely sail - this is a painting that soothes rather than shouts. Aivazovsky's The Black Sea is ideal wall decor for a bedroom, a spa area and a hotel room overlooking the water, wherever silence and breathing space matter. The cool, subdued palette suits interiors in white, grey and natural linen, as well as minimalist studies with dark oak. We suggest a horizontal format or a wide panorama cut along the horizon line - such a crop fills the wall above a bed or sofa beautifully. On Dibond the art print takes on a matt, velvety surface that does not reflect light, and as photo wallpaper it turns a whole wall into open sea. In the artMonte configurator you enter any dimension, and we fit the print precisely to your interior.

The Black Sea
About the artwork
The painting's full title is "A Storm Begins to Brew on the Black Sea". There are no castaways here and no dramatic rocks - only dark, rolling water, low-hanging clouds and a barely visible sail on the horizon. Ivan Aivazovsky painted the canvas in 1881, at the age of 64, giving up effects in favour of a sparing, almost monochrome palette. The painter Ivan Kramskoi counted it among the finest pictures he knew. The work hangs in the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.
