A print of “Kirifuri Waterfall at Kurokami Mountain in Shimotsuke Province” by Katsushika Hokusai on your wall
Prussian blue and the white of the streams of water, the green and ochre of the rocks - a Japanese woodblock print that looks like contemporary graphic art. Hokusai's Kirifuri Waterfall is vertical wall art for a hallway, a narrow wall by the stairs, a Japanese-style bathroom, a massage room and a japandi-style room. The subdued palette suits pale wood, black window frames, paper and bamboo, as well as walls in warm white. The original has a proportion close to 2:3, so we recommend a vertical format, for example 60 x 90 cm or 80 x 120 cm; the woodblock print bears enlargement well, because its strength lies in the drawing, not the detail. A Hokusai print - far more durable than an ordinary poster - is light and eco-friendly on Dispa board, and on Dibond gains a matt, papery nobility. In the artMonte configurator you enter any dimension, and we fit the print to your wall.

About the artwork
Water falls down a rock face split into dozens of streams that look like fingers or the roots of a tree, while at the bottom tiny figures of travellers look up at the cascade. The woodblock print was made around 1832 as part of the series "A Tour of Waterfalls in Various Provinces", comprising eight vertical sheets. Hokusai, the author of "The Great Wave off Kanagawa", depicted here a real waterfall near Nikkō, but gave it an almost abstract, ornamental form. The impression is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
