A print of “The Ninth Wave” by Ivan Aivazovsky on your wall
The gold and turquoise of dawn break through a heaving sea, and a mighty wave freezes a split second before it strikes. A print of The Ninth Wave is wall art that turns a room into a scene full of tension and hope - it works in a study, in a hotel lobby and in a living room where one strong accent is meant to dominate. The warm tones of the painting go well with walnut, brass and graphite upholstery. We recommend a large horizontal format, from 150 cm wide upwards, because the detail of the castaways and the transparency of the wave need scale. On 5 mm acrylic glass an Aivazovsky painting gains depth and brilliance, as if the water really glowed, while on Dibond it takes on a matt, gallery-like nobility. In the artMonte configurator you enter the exact dimensions of your wall, and we crop the picture and print it precisely for that space.

The Ninth Wave
About the artwork
A group of shipwrecked sailors clings desperately to the mast of a sunken ship while an enormous wave rises above them - by the old belief of seafarers the ninth, the most dangerous in a storm's cycle. Ivan Aivazovsky painted the picture in 1850, at the height of his career. The rising sun shines through the water and clouds with a warm, golden hue, promising rescue. The canvas is regarded as the most famous seascape of Russian Romanticism and belongs to the collection of the Russian Museum in St Petersburg.
