A print of “The Magpie” by Claude Monet on your wall
Snow that is not white but blue, lilac and cream, and a single black dot - a magpie on a gate - that is the whole magic of this painting. Monet's The Magpie is wall art that brightens and calms at once: in a living room in white and pale wood it blends in like a window onto a winter garden, in a bedroom it adds cool freshness, and in a study or waiting room it soothes like a view through a pane. A print of The Magpie in a horizontal crop keeps the sweep of the flat landscape, and a panoramic format emphasises the line of the fence and the shadows. 5 mm acrylic glass makes the snow truly glisten, and full-wall wallpaper turns the room into a Normandy morning. In the artMonte configurator you enter the exact dimensions of your wall and we print the Monet painting perfectly for that spot.

The Magpie
About the artwork
A lone magpie has perched on a wattle gate in a snow-covered garden near Étretat in Normandy; the low sun casts long blue and violet shadows on the snow. Monet painted the picture in the winter of 1868-1869, before the term Impressionism even existed, and it was rejected by the Salon of 1869. Today it is the most famous of the artist's roughly 140 winter landscapes and a textbook example of painting shadows in colour instead of grey.
