A print of “Interior with Young Woman Seen from the Back” by Vilhelm Hammershøi on your wall
Grey, white and pearl - Hammershøi needed only this many colours to create an interior in which time stands still. The dark silhouette of a woman with her back turned, a pale wall and soft light from the side make up wall art that brings silence and focus into a home. A print of Interior with Young Woman Seen from the Back was made for a bedroom and living room in the spirit of japandi or Scandinavian minimalism, where pale wood, linen fabrics and cool greys need one subtle accent. We recommend a vertical crop in a format close to the original, hung at eye level. On Dibond the matt surface renders the velvety tonal transitions perfectly, and a Hammershøi painting in this version looks like a canvas taken down from the wall of a Copenhagen museum. In the artMonte configurator you enter a dimension matched to your wall, and we print it in exactly that size.

About the artwork
A woman in a black dress stands with her back to the viewer, holding an empty silver tray in her hands, beside her a dark chest of drawers with a porcelain vase. The model is Ida, the artist's wife, whom Hammershøi painted from behind many times in the flat on Strandgade in Copenhagen. The painting of 1903-1904, today in Randers Kunstmuseum, combines everything the painter is famous for: a subdued grey-blue palette, an empty composition and a precise play of light on the wall, the nape of the neck and the folds of the dress.
