A print of “Snowy Owl” by John James Audubon on your wall
White feathers against a navy night, two pairs of yellow eyes and a dead trunk - Audubon's Snowy Owl is the most atmospheric plate in The Birds of America. Wall art like this is chosen by owners of bedrooms in dark colours, studies with green walls and leather, teenagers' rooms that are ready to move on from childhood motifs, and mountain hotels with a raw, woodland character. The plate is vertical and bears a large format well; the owls hold the gaze from the other end of the room, so we recommend it as a stand-alone picture above a bed or fireplace. On 5 mm acrylic glass the black of the sky gains depth and the white of the birds almost glows; Dibond gives a quieter, matt version close to the original print. You set the size of the print yourself: the artMonte configurator accepts any dimensions, and we print it exactly for your interior.

Snowy Owl
About the artwork
Two snowy owls sit at night on a dead trunk: one looks straight at the viewer, the other turns its head away; behind them stretches a dark, clouded sky. This is one of the few plates in The Birds of America with a night-time setting. Plate 121 came in 1831 from the hand of the engraver Robert Havell in London. Audubon, born in Haiti and raised in France, combined in the series the precision of a naturalist with the dramatic sense of a painter, and complete copies of his work are today among the most expensive books in the world.
