A print of “Death (Śmierć)” by Jacek Malczewski on your wall
Warm light on the old man's face, green beyond the window and the calm, beautiful face of the woman with the scythe - Malczewski's Death is a painting about acceptance, not fear. A print of Malczewski's Death is a choice for interiors with character: a library, the office of a doctor or philosopher, a studio, the living room of a period flat with walnut furniture, and a thoughtful gift for a lover of Young Poland. The painting is vertical, so we recommend a vertical format in a full crop or a close-up of the two faces, which heightens the intimacy of the scene. On Dibond the warm tones of skin and wood gain a matt softness, and on PVC board the print will be light and easy to hang in a studio. Malczewski wall art in any size - enter the dimensions in the artMonte configurator and we will match the print to your wall.

Death (Śmierć)
About the artwork
A young woman with a scythe, the personification of death, stands outside the window of a village cottage and gently touches the eyelids of the old man sitting inside, who waits calmly for the end with folded hands. There is no horror here: death is beautiful, gentle, and brings solace. Malczewski painted the picture in 1902 as one of many treatments of a theme he returned to throughout his life. The work is in the National Museum in Warsaw and is among the most moving canvases of Polish Symbolism.
